The Galaxy Mall program aka Stores Online, is a company operating out of Utah. They put on seminars through out the United States. Their main pitch to workshop attendees most of whom don't have experience with computers, much less the Internet, licenses to have a website. The licenses includes free Web hosting for a year and access to Web-building software and insider marketing techniques, such as how to get better placement in search engines.

According to an article in the Denver Post dated August 11, 2002, the company has about 100 employees, and hundreds of thousands of customers and annual revenue of more than 30 million. Galaxy's package of 3 website's and marketing tips costs about $2,400 with additional charges for other services, such as the ability to accept credit cards or coaching sessions. Many people have invested as much as $10,000 with the company.

One customer who claims she spent $10,000 and 18 months in the program says she has yet to turn a profit. Another one who spent an additional $2,500 said her business went online in May 18 months after she joined the program, and hasn't made a dime. The company guaranteed her site would get 2,000 hits within a month of opening. It received fewer than 500 to date. Another person said that her website had been down for a total of five months with no income coming in because she couldn't hold of anyone at the company to help her with a specific problem.

The Utah attorney general's office has received hundreds of complaints since 1997. The Utah BBB has received more than 100 complaints this year alone in seven months general's in two states are currently investing the company. They've all been allegations of Internet sales fraud.

One customer according to the article said Galaxy helped her launch a jewelry business five years ago that has recorded $1 million in sales. She said those who don't succeed through the program are just looking for someone else to blame.

The founder of the company Jay Poelman said "the company is always upfront with customers and blames the complaints on buyers' remorse". He also said "consumers shouldn't expect to succeed without a proven product to sell. You have to test the product".
