Every day in every city there are ads promoting the business of owning a vending machine route. Vending machines are of course a great way to make money if you don't pay too much for your machines and have great locations without paying too much to the owner of the location. But to get all three is next to impossible, and that's the problem. The people who really are making the money are the ones selling the machines.

If I had my choice I would prefer owning coin laundry machines. The difference between owning laundry machines and selling product from vending machines is a great one. The vending machines are more sensitive to outside influence and the product has to be constantly re-supplied and the machines serviced, whereas the laundry machines need only to be maintained in good order and the money collected. The laundry equipment will wait for you to come for the money a lot longer than the pop or candy bar machine.

Securing sites, assembling machines, installation so that vandalism is kept to a minimum . Optimum site location is sometimes hard to achieve because of cost as electrical power is required for the machines to operate. And of course there is maintenance.

So I think the whole problem with vending is trying to find places to place your machines. Many businesses will want a kickback or percentage to let you place your machine in there location. Many other promising locations are just going to get machines themselves. What do they need you for?

So all in all it is real easy to spend $20,000 or more for machines that might end up in your garage. But, on the other hand, if you own a lot of locations go for it. And, if you own a lot of locations why do you need a vending business?
