Web Page Design

Web page design is probably one of the easiest and most misunderstood parts of the internet. Designing a web site isn't hard. You only need a few things to put a nice site together. Most folks want to make the process of web page design like writing a book or something. I have written two books on making money and internet marketing. Designing and putting up a web site is a of lot easier than writing a book.

Here are some keys to keep in mind with web page design. Enjoy these and don't get lost in the process. Do something that is pleasing to the eye but not too flashy: Many people do a site that is so basic looking that no one wants to spend any money with them. Others do something that is so flashy that most people on the net don't understand what they are trying to do. Balance is the key here. Take a look at my site. You can tell that I have had it professionally designed but there isn't anything flashy about it.

That is where content comes in. Content is anything that relays info about your industry and doesn't talk about you. For me that means pretty much my entire site. Yes, I have a sales letter that sells something but 90% (or more) of my site is relaying info about business opportunities, scams, other personalities and internet marketing. Hopefully that shows I know something about which I speak.

Navigation that makes sense: That may sound like something that is extremely obvious but I don't think it is to a lot of people out there. Your site should have a flow to it that makes sense to someone that comes to the site for the first time.

Too many sites are a jumble of links, boxes, graphics and crap. Look at this site for example. There are links on the left that refer to the different articles. On the front page there is a headline and text for you to read that encourages you to go to my sales letter so you can see what I am selling. Making your site easy to use is going to mean that people are going to stay around and use the darned thing.

Before you start a web site, you are going to have to decide if the site is going to be a hobby or something that is going to make some money. Hobbies (contrary to what some people will tell you) do not make money.

If you go the money route (which many of your will) you have to not be afraid to offer something to the same people that you are marketing to. Almost all of the big editorial sites in the world have banner ads, books, links and things that they are selling on them. You can't be afraid to do that with your site either.

Style: Put your own style on your site. Write your own content. Put up your own words and reviews. Make your site your own. It sounds so basic but so many people out there are always trying to copy someone else. It may work in the short run but never in the long run.
