Wright Thurston started out as an IBM employee and claims to have become a millionaire by age 30 from investing part-time in real estate while living in Alaska. He quit his job with IBM in 1989 to pursue real estate investment full time, and now lives in Provo, Utah.

Wright Thurston has written several home study courses explaining his techniques, including “ Diamonds In The Rough: How To Build A $9,000 A Month Positive Cash Flow” (cost: $325), “Property Management Magic: Fair But Firm Landlording Techniques” ($325), “Making It Happen: Getting Rich The "Wright" Way” ($250), “60 Strategies for Successful Investing” ($100) and the “Total Investment Package” ($699).

You can also sign up for one of Wright Thurston’s mentoring courses, which go by the title of “Millionaire's Retreats”. They cost $2000, for 2-3 days. You don’t necessarily get mentored by Wright Thurston himself - it may be another “wealth building expert”. The retreats take place in locations like Hawaii, Orlando, Las Vegas and Canada. Accommodations are not included. You just get coffee and one lunch.

I think you can get the measure of Wright Thurston from that last sentence. Here is a man who claims to earn $9000 a month. He sells you something called a Millionaire’s Retreat for a couple of thousand dollars, sets it in an exotic location and then hands you a cup of coffee.

Same problem with his courses, I’m afraid. Basically, they consist of a book, plus the exact same material on cassette. The books are OK and contain some useful nuts and bolts information, but there’s nothing in them that you couldn’t find in a dozen different real estate books for a fraction of the cost. The bottom line is, Wright Thurston is a great salesman. So don’t forget that salesmanship is all about packaging.
